Environmental and Anti-Counterfeit programmes

Inventing for an environmentally sustainable future

At HP, we realise that the development of environmentally sustainable products is not an option, it’s an imperative. That’s why HP is committed to programmes that reduce our ecological footprint, as well as those of our customers and partners. By developing high-quality and environmentally sound products, services and solutions HP is helping to lead global business towards a sustainable future.

HP’s Design for Environment programme ensures HP print cartridges are designed with the environment in mind. This commitment continues through to manufacture and packing. Thanks to exacting standards of performance and reliability, HP has been able to minimise the waste its products produce during their working life. And when products eventually reach the end of their lives, The HP Planet Partner Programme ensures customers can return them, free of charge, for recycling.

HP’s comprehensive environmental management covers the entire lifecycle of its supplies, giving you complete peace of mind.

HP provides industry-leading environmental stewardship at every stage of the product lifecycle:

Return
The HP Planet Partners programme makes it easy and free to return your used HP print cartridges.

Recycling
In 2007, over 54 million HP inkjet and LaserJet print cartridges were returned for recycling through the Planet Partners programme – that’s a weigh of almost 17,000 metric tonnes. And now, HP takes plastic from cartridges returned through HP Planet Partners and uses the recycled plastic in its own HP Original LaserJet and inkjet cartridges, all the time maintaining the high quality which customers expect. Customers who participate in HP Planet Partners help to close the loop!

How to take part in HP Planet Partners return programme

It’s free, easy and convenient for businesses to participate in the HP Planet Partners programme. Pre-addressed, postage paid shipping labels, envelopes and boxes are available for individual or bulk return, either with your new HP print cartridge or online, at www.hp.com/recycle.

Beware of criminal imitations!

Counterfeiting in the printing supplies business is a serious problem to HP and to our customers – as these illegal products do a lot of harm to our customers’ printers.

Most counterfeits are refilled ink and toner print cartridges, repackaged as original HP products – that look identical or substantially in distinguishable from the genuine or original product.

If you buy counterfeit products you will simply be cheated because what you believe to be genuine HP products are only poor quality imitations – products which will frequently leak or do not work properly. And remember: Counterfeit products can destroy your printer and invalidate the warranty.

How to identify counterfeit products

On genuine HP print cartridge boxes you will find a security label. On ALL toner products and on MANY ink products. Checking this label makes it easier for you to recognize the real thing:

The labels on HP print cartridge boxes are divided into two colour contrasting light and dark halves.

The labels feature the words “ORIGINAL TONER” or “ORIGINAL INK” (as appropriate) across the two colour-contrasting halves of the label.

The contrasting halves of the label as well as the “ORIGINAL TONER” or “ORIGINAL INK” lettering should switch between dark and light blue as the box is turned. As one side is dark blue with lighter lettering, the other side will be light blue with darker lettering, and vice versa.

Remember: if you have a toner cartridge without a security label, it is a counterfeit. But not all ink cartridges have security labels, so don’t assume if the label is missing, it is counterfeit.

And should you have been so unlucky as to have bought counterfeit cartridges they are rather easy to recognize: Poor print quality, cartridge leakage and/or failure – or maybe “a price that’s too good to be true!” If you suspect you have bought counterfeit cartridges, contact HP directly by email: emea.anti-counterfeit@hp.com
